LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - If you are in the market to buy a car online, you might want to exercise caution.

The Laredo Police Auto Theft Task Force says that people have unknowingly been buying stolen vehicles.

That’s why Laredo police say if the offer seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Some tips for avoiding these scams are to make sure to use online resources to check the vehicle’s history by using the VIN number on the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles website.

Additionally, meet at the county tax assessor’s office to complete the title transfer. If the seller refuses, that could be a red flag.
