A petition has been lodged in State Parliament calling for Nedlands’ historic Windsor Cinema to be heritage-listed.
The 1937-built structure hit the market in September last year, with the sales pitch promoting “high-density large-scale future redevelopment options”. It was sold in June.
This week Greens MLC Brad Pettitt presented a petition to State Parliament’s Legislative Council from people worried about the cinema’s future.
“The Windsor Cinema in Nedlands, constructed in 1937, is an important part of WA’s cultural heritage and should be conserved for the benefit of all Western Australians,” he said.
In 2020, the State Heritage Council recommended the building should not be added to the register — a decision Mr Pettitt said was contested by more than 20 leading heritage professiona
