Putting out the competition at the Gaslight Festivals Pipe Smoking Competition

JEFFERSONTOWN, Ky. —

The oldest tradition at the Gaslight Festival is the Pipe Smoking Competition.

Participants get equal amounts of tobacco and whoever keeps their tobacco burning the longest is named the Gaslight Pipe Smoking Champion.

Richard Becker, a competitor, said, "We started at 2 o'clock. First bowl went almost 30 minutes, and then one just actually went out on me, but it was right about 45 minutes."

Becker was Sunday’s big winner.
