MARION, Ill. (WSIL) -- Roughly a thousand people came out to Marion for a vigil for Charlie Kirk on Sunday.

Crowds gathered at the Marion Square on the evening of September 14. This coming days after the deadly shooting of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, on September 10.

Memorials were also held in many locations across the nation on Sunday evening for his life and legacy.

The Williamson County Sheriff's Office said they estimated roughly a 1,000 came out to the Marion Square for the event.

Multiple agencies, including the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, the Marion Police Department, along with other law enforcement were on site for security and safety.
