Mariners' Cal Raleigh sets a special MLB catcher record with latest home run

Cal Raleigh has set just about every catcher home run record possible this season.

The Seattle Mariners ' superstar backstop snagged the last one out there waiting for him on Sunday with his 54th home run of the season.

This record is special: It's for home runs hit in a game that a player was actually catching.

Entering this season, that record was held by Javy Lopez, who had a season in which he hit 42 homers while he was the catcher in the lineup.

Raleigh spends time as a DH, so he entered Sunday with 42 of his 53 homers hit in games where he slotted as the catcher.

On Sunday, Raleigh was the catcher, and he homered again.

That made it 43 of 54 homers as a catcher, and a new MLB
