MARTINSVILLE — Under a new proposal, the New College Institute (NCI) will become the Patrick & Henry Community College Center for Workforce and Economic Development at the Baldwin Building.

The resolution making it so has yet to be approved, and the plan would require legislative action, as well as assurance from the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) that the funding, earmarked for NCI, would continue to flow.

“Individual discussions were held with local leaders Jay Dickens, Lee Prillaman, and Del. Eric Phillips, and we eventually discussed with P&HCC President Greg Hodges, who envisioned a transformation of the NCI building and its programming as part of P&HCC,” said Mark Crabtree, NCI board member. Dickens and Prillaman also serve on the NCI Board.
