A mum has told how her eight-year old son found her in a coma and saved her life. Brodie Allan thought Susan, 46, had slept in when he woke up and realised he was going to be late for school. ‌

He discovered his mum out cold on the floor of their Airdrie home and sprung into action. Aware that she suffered from type 1 diabetes, he tried to wake her up. ‌

When those attempts failed, little Brodie called 999. He took her pulse and checked her breathing while on the phone as the emergency services rushed to the scene . ‌

They found Susan in a coma due to diabetic ketoacidosis, a complication of diabetes caused by a severe lack of insulin which can be life-threatening.
