The actions of a man who imported a child-like sex doll to his family home have been labelled "morally and legally repugnant" by a District Court judge.

Geoffrey Mitchell Mew, 43, was sentenced in South Australia's District Court on Monday after previously pleading guilty to various offences including producing, or taking the steps to produce, a child-like sex doll and the possession of child abuse material.

In sentencing, Judge Anthony Allen said "the importation of a child-like sex doll, and producing the same, is an unusual crime".

But he said that of the "minimal judicial commentary" that did exist, there was an emphasis on the "morally and legally repugnant link between child-like sex dolls" and an "offender's sexual interests in children".
