Helping foodies try new dishes and make connections is this Denton chef’s goal with her new cookbook.
Shadan Kishi Price did not always enjoy cooking, but that changed when she became a vegetarian around 2007.
“Back then, it was really hard to find vegetarian food,” she said. “So, I had to learn how to cook, and that’s when I realized I actually really enjoyed cooking.”
She worked at the Maple dining hall, which serves an entirely vegan menu, while earning a degree in hospitality management at the University of North Texas.
She went on to create a Mediterranean, vegetarian food truck called Leila’s, which was active from 2016 to 2019. She said that one of her most popular dishes was a falafel burger.
That recipe, along with other Leila’s recipes and even more, is now available in Co
