A man has been handed a lifetime ban from the AFL after allegedly performing a Nazi salute during Brisbane’s semi-final win over Gold Coast on Saturday night.

The incident happened during the pre-match national anthem and welcome to country ceremony at the Gabba.

Officers in attendance quickly responded and brought the man into custody, where he was later charged with one count of public display of a Nazi salute.

The 39-year-old man is expected to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court on September 29.

Queensland Police Acting Deputy Commissioner Mark Kelly said it appeared the man had no known links to far-right movements.

“It was a member in the crowd who did a Nazi salute, he has been charged with that offence,” he said.
