South Australia are already in talks with the AFL over a potential 2027 State of Origin clash after the league locked in the return of representative football next February.
Western Australia will host Victoria at Optus Stadium on February 14 next year in a re-launch of the representative format which has not featured on the AFL calendar in more than 25 years.
The AFL finally confirmed the date and venue on Monday morning, a month after 7NEWS chief AFL reporter Mitch Cleary first reported it .
While fans have largely welcomed the return of Origin, South Australia have been left out entirely.
However, Cleary revealed the government are in early talks at a potential game in 2027 against either Victoria or Western Australia.
