A 26-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to throwing a newborn baby out of a bathroom window in a plastic bag. Irine Jerotich appeared in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday, facing charges of reckless conduct endangering life. The incident occurred around 2:40 a.m. on August 30, 2024, at a residence in Dandenong North, where the infant was discovered with life-threatening injuries.

The newborn was promptly taken to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries. During the brief court hearing, Jerotich, who is currently on bail, wore a white hoodie and had her long braided ponytail draped over her shoulder. She was not required to provide any statements, only indicating to Magistrate Leon Fluxman that she was pleading guilty to the charge.

Details of the crime were not discussed in court. However, previous allegations stated that Jerotich placed the baby in a plastic bag and threw the child out the bathroom window onto concrete, which endangered the infant's life. Court documents reveal that the offense took place between August 29 and 30, 2024.

Jerotich had also faced a charge of reckless conduct endangering injury to an infant, but that charge was dropped. Her bail conditions have been extended until her pre-sentence hearing, which is scheduled for February in the County Court of Victoria. While on bail, Jerotich is prohibited from leaving Victoria and must remain at her home address.
