EBEN JUNCTION — The Superior Central Cougars broke in their new turf while earning a 40-30 football triumph over the Ironwood Red Devils here Saturday.

“Last year our field was nearly unplayable,” Cougars’ junior quarterback Will Spranger said. “I can’t thank our booster club and athletic director enough for their support. This makes for better footing and playing conditions. Our determination made the difference. This was bigtime motivation for us. We got sacked pretty good at Pickford (58-0 on Aug. 28).”

As a dejected group of Red Devils walked off the field, the Cougars dashed to the front of the school to ring the victory bell on this sunny and warm afternoon.

Although the Cougars (2-1) got a win by forfeit over Rock Mid Peninsula Sept. 6, this marked the first victory on the field
