PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — This week is Birth Center Week, and September 14 through 20 is time set aside to recognize and engage with the home-like places where midwives provide nurturing care.
Doulas at the Urban Perinatal Center in Pawtucket kicked the week off with a community event to connect new and expecting mothers with a wealth of supportive resources.
We spoke with executive director Quatia Orsorio about how birth centers like hers work towards improving the rates maternal mortality, pre-term birth and low birth weight.
“We know that the midwifery model is one of the many solutions to be able to support eliminating these disparities and not just for black women but for all women across the board,” said Orsorio.
