PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A fiery crash blocked traffic near a busy central Phoenix intersection on Sunday.
Around 7:15 p.m., officers responded to a crash involving the light rail and a semi-truck at 18th and Washington streets , just east of downtown. Both the light rail and the semi were quickly engulfed in flames.
All occupants were able to make it out of the light rail and truck safely. The driver of the semi was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
No other injuries were reported. The intersection was shut down authorities worked to clear the area. Todd Keller with Phoenix Fire said the light rail routes will continue as planned, but riders should expect delays.
