BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) - A powerful storm system that swept through North Dakota over the weekend has left behind a trail of damage and a new weather record.

As of Monday morning, 19 tornadoes have been confirmed across the state, according to preliminary reports from the National Weather Service. The twisters were part of a broader system that brought heavy rain, flooding, and widespread disruptions.

In Bismarck, 2.44 inches of rain fell on Sunday, setting a new daily rainfall record for Sept. 14. The previous record of 1.5 inches, set in 1900, was shattered by the deluge.

While the severe weather threat has subsided, forecasters say rain chances will continue throughout Monday, with highs in the 70s. No additional severe storms are expected.
