HERMITAGE A Hermitage official is refuting social media rumors that a planned Target store has canceled its project at the former Shenango Valley Mall site.

Mark Longietti, the city's director of business and community development, stated in an email to 21 News that posts claiming the project was halted are "completely inaccurate."

According to Longietti, one of the social media posts included a statement from a person who claimed to work in "the Mayor's Office." Longietti notes that Hermitage operates with an appointed city manager and an elected city commission, not a mayor.

"Everything is progressing as previously announced," Longietti said, sarcastically commenting on the posts as “Social media at its best.”
