HALLOWELL, Maine — Maine utility regulators have approved five renewable energy projects aimed at supporting the state's clean energy goals while giving preference to those projects reusing contaminated land, including farmland impacted by PFAS chemicals.

The Public Utilities Commission said the projects include a four-megawatt hydroelectric facility and four solar facilities totaling 257 megawatts. The decision follows a request for proposals issued in July, seeking Class IA renewable resources that could help communities redevelop land while advancing clean energy.
