The Toronto Blue Jays are two steps closer to finishing the season with the best record in the American League for just the fourth time in franchise history.

The Jays did it in 1985 (with a 99-62 record) when they went on to lose in heart-breaking fashion to the Kansas City Royals in the AL Championship Series, and the World Series championship seasons in 1992 (96-66, tied with Oakland A’s) and 1993 (95-67).

Finishing with the league’s best record is important as it would give that team home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.
