Days of continuous rainfall have severely disrupted normal life in Manipur, cutting off major highways to state capital Imphal, triggering landslides, and flooding government offices and hospitals in Imphal East district.

The state government has extended the closure of all educational institutions till September 17 as a precautionary measure due to ongoing floods and landslides.

According to the Meteorological Centre in Imphal, the heaviest rainfall was recorded at Sainik School, Pangei, in Imphal East (102.5 mm), while moderate rainfall was reported in Ukhrul, Tamenglong, Churachandpur and Imphal. The Water Resources Department said the Thoubal River is flowing above the high flood level, while the Imphal River breached its banks at several points in Imphal East.
