As 2025 has shaped up to be the hottest summer on record in Edinburgh, 22 people have died due to heart this year alone, with scientists warning the situation is likely to get worse.

Experts claim the number of deaths over the summer - the hottest in the UK since records began - was made worse by human-induced global warming.

A study led by researchers at Imperial College London found that heat was responsible for 24,400 deaths over the summer months across 854 European cities, over 16,000 more than usual levels.

The report attributes 22 deaths to heat in Edinburgh as well as 24 in Glasgow and 14 in Dundee, reports the Scottish Daily Express .

In addition, there were 315 deaths in London, 52 in Birmingham, 24 in Sheffield, and 14 each in Belfast, Leeds, and Wolverhampton.
