What makes this bird unique is its response to danger. When it senses a threat, this bird hides among reeds or cattails and stands completely motionless with its bill pointed upward. It also contracts its body and can appear like a stalk in the swamp. Unfortunately, sometimes it takes this stance when there are no reeds or brush to conceal it.
