Real Salt Lake has apologized to a fan for asking him to remove his Make America Great Again hat during Saturday's game against Sporting Kansas City.
The fan claimed on X that he was ejected from the game for wearing the hat in support of U.S. President Donald Trump.
Though RSL didn't mention ejecting the fan, it did issue an apology on social media for the incident and invited him back to America First Field.
“During last night's Real Salt Lake match, a fan was asked to remove a Make America Great Again hat. We have apologized to the fan and gladly invite him and his family to attend Real Salt Lake matches in the future,” RSL said in a statement on Monday.
“Real Salt Lake has a vibrant and diverse fanbase and we invite them to continue to unite our community through the power of sport and the beautiful game.”
The MLS Fan Code of Conduct prohibits, among other things:
"Displaying signs, symbols or images for commercial purposes or for electioneering, campaigning or advocating for or against any candidate, political party, legislative issue, or government action."
However, this does not extend to apparel, meaning the fan in Utah was not in violation of the policy.
In July, a fan at a St. Louis City game was ejected for refusing to take off his MAGA hat.
