The Minnesota Vikings have signed quarterback Desmond Ridder following starter J.J. McCarthy 's injury , NFL Network 's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported on Tuesday (September 16).

"The #Vikings are signing QB Desmond Ridder to the 53-man roster, with JJ McCarthy suffering an ankle injury, per me and @TomPelissero ," Rapoport wrote on his X account.

The Vikings reportedly chose Ridder, 26, over Dorian Thompson-Robinson in a tryout on Tuesday, Pro Football Talk 's Mike Florio reports. Ridder has thrown for 4,002 yards, 16 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in 25 total appearances during his three-year NFL career, which includes an 8-10 record as a starter.

McCarthy is expected to be ruled out for his team's Week 3 game against the Cincinnati Bengals due
