The Green Cove Springs City Council hit a roadblock at its most recent meeting when it comes to addressing the city’s finances.
According to Clay Today, the City Council in July set the tentative millage rate at 6.0 for fiscal year 2025-26.
That’s 21.49% higher than the current rolled back 4.9386 millage rate, Clay Today explained.
If the City Council approves the higher rate, the city’s general fund budget would increase by 13.21%.
But the council members could not agree on the rate hike and went back and forth at their latest meeting, discussing it.
A four-person vote is needed to approve the proposed rate increase.
