WATERLOO, Iowa —

John Deere announced Wednesday that nearly 150 Iowa workers will be laid off next month.

KCRG reports that 101 Deere employees in Waterloo have been notified that their last day will be Oct. 17. Another 40 workers at Deere’s Des Moines Works facility will be laid off Oct. 31.

Deere officials cited decreased demand and lower order volumes for the layoffs, and said the impacted employees will receive unemployment pay and other monetary benefits. They will also be able to keep their healthcare benefits for at least six months.
