The small Italian island of Pantelleria is planning to rename its airport in honor of the late fashion icon Giorgio Armani . Known for his refined minimalism and timeless elegance, Armani often spent his summers at his estate on the island.

Armani, who died earlier this month at the age of 91, owned an extensive property on the island, which lies between Sicily and Tunisia in the Mediterranean. He used it as a retreat with family and friends during his rare breaks from work in August. His home consisted of seven “dammusi” — traditional rural buildings made of white lava stone with domed roofs — surrounded by more than 150 palm trees.
