Donald Trump's private carriage procession was mocked online as "Monty-Pythonesque" after the public were kept out.

The U.S. President began his second State Visit to Britain at Windsor Castle on Wednesday, where he was welcomed first by Prince William and Princess Kate and then by King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

He was treated to a royal carriage ride through the Windsor Estate but with a twist—for security reasons the cast iron gates were kept firmly shut amid a major security operation.

Instead of giving the public a chance to see Trump—and indeed the royals—the procession route was lined with members of the Armed Forces, creating a performance of royal pageantry that was not experienced by Windsor residents.
