The City of Kelowna has had “preliminary discussions” with the Ministry of Transportation and Transit about the idea of adding colourful night lights to the W.R. Bennett bridge, municipal officials say.
But the ministry itself has offered no comment for four days on the proposal, a curious ongoing silence regarding a proposal which has generated considerable enthusiasm among Kelowna city councillors.
“It looks like it will take some more time,” Murray Sinclair, a ministry spokesman, said Tuesday afternoon of a request submitted last Friday morning for the government’s response to the light-up proposal.
As part of the annual update to the city’s 10-year-capital plan, municipal staff propose lighting up the bridge with “dynamic” and “aesthetic” lights, similar to those which adorn landmar
