Starting Oct. 1, residents of unincorporated Jefferson Parish will see a 35% discount on flood insurance thanks to a new rating from a FEMA program.
Jefferson Parish is the first area in the state to receive a Class 3 rating from the National Flood Insurance Program's Community Rating System (CRS), up from its previous rating of Class 5.
The CRS program awards discounts to communities that implement floodplain management activities, like storm-resilient building codes, building elevation requirements and maintaining a watershed management plan.
