Petco is scaling back its footprint as the pet supplies retailer grapples with financial challenges, Fast Company reports.
The company plans to close 25 retail locations in 2025, matching the number of stores it shuttered in 2024. The closures come as Petco faces declining financial performance.
According to a recent earnings release , the company’s net sales dropped 2.3% to $1.5 billion for the second quarter, while comparable sales fell 1.4%. Petco’s stock performance has also suffered, Fast Company said, with shares down nearly 16% year to date and almost 26% over the past 12 months.
Sabrina Simmons, Petco’s CFO, noted during a second-quarter earnings call that 10 locations had already closed this year, bringing the company’s U.S. store count to 1,388 locations.
