A suspect is in custody after two homes were struck by gunfire Tuesday morning in separate incidents in suburban Shorewood, including a residence owned by an Illinois state senator.

Sen. Meg Loughran Cappel, who represents Illinois’ 49 th district, reported that her home was one of those struck by gunfire early Tuesday morning in a series of incidents that were investigated by police.

“In the early hours of Tuesday morning, my family and I experienced a deeply troubling incident when a shot was fired directly at our home,” she said. “I am grateful to Chief Arnold, law enforcement and investigators for their work detaining a suspect and working diligently to get to the bottom of this.”

The senator said that she and her family were not injured in the incident.
