WASHINGTON – Under questioning from U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-Baton Rouge, and the committee he chairs, the former director of the Centers for Disease control said Wednesday she was fired after 29 days on the job because she refused to agree in advance to changes to the nation's vaccine policy.
“I could have stayed silent, agreed to the demands, and no one would have known,” Monarez said.
She told senators on the Senate Health Education Labor and Pension that the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices could soon call for removing vaccines for COVID, Hepatitis B and others from the list of recommended inoculations.
Cassidy lauded the practice of vaccinating newborns against Hepatatis B.
“We should stand up and salute the people who made that decision,” Cassidy said.
