HAMILTON, Ohio (WXIX) - A skull that was discovered in a sewer system in Hamilton in late August has been confirmed to be human, according to the Butler County Coroner’s Office.

The report states that the biological sample collected was inspected by a forensic pathologist and a forensic anthropologist, who determined that the skull belonged to an adult white male.

No age range was given and no trauma was detected to the skull.

It is currently unknown how long the person had been dead or the cause of death.

A sample has been sent to the Bureau of Criminal Investigations in London, Ohio, for DNA extraction and analysis, the coroner said.

The remains were discovered by contractors conducting a routine maintenance inspection of the storm sewer system on August 27, city officials said.
