HAMMOND — A 22-year-old Hammond man faces two counts of possessing child pornography stemming from allegations that he was communicating over social media with an 11-year-old boy in California, according to Indiana State Police.

The accused was identified by police as Rogelio Herrera, who was picked up Tuesday during a traffic stop on an outstanding warrant and taken to the Porter County Jail.

"This arrest was the result of an extensive investigation which originated in California," according to ISP.

"The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office received a report that an unknown individual had been communicating with an eleven-year-old boy via multiple social media applications," police said. "The child was determined to be safe, and no physical contact was ever made."
