OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - Day to day more animals arrive at the Heartland Humane Society. And the Humane Society said the strain continues to grow.

“We have every possible place to put animal there’s an animal in it,” said assistant manager Courtney Monohon.

Last month the Humane Society struggled to keep up with medical cost for animals.

“The dog that had to get his hip replaced soli he’ll be getting ready to have his other leg done so surgeries are ok for now.”

Capacity is also still an issue as the Humane Society is using both its new and old building to shelter over 100 animals. Monohon said, however, it’s only a temporary fix.
