Lambton County council appears ready to keep its door closed in 2026 to new capital grant requests from community groups.

A moratorium, in place since 2021 on new grant requests, will continue when next year’s budget is set, if a motion passed Wednesday by county council, sitting as committee of the whole, is adopted at the next regular council meeting in October.

“Given current economic conditions and financial pressures required to meet the county’s 2026 strategic goals, staff recommend maintaining the moratorium on new capital grant requests,” said a county report.
