CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection will hold a public hearing in person Thursday in Mingo County to listen and offer more information about two proposed power plants for the county.

The two plants being proposed would be powered by natural gas. One would be located in the Wharncliff area and the other in the Holden area near the Logan County border. The public meeting is to be held at the Harless Center in Gilbert starting at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

DEP Spokesman Terry Fletcher says the applications are for “off-grid electric generating facilities,” which makes no mention of a data center, but Fletcher added it seems to be the general consensus of why a power project of the scope would be warranted.
