HOWELL — Detroit is not among the U.S. cities to see National Guard troops brought in this year as an effort to crack down on crime — although the offer still stands, Vice President JD Vance said in Michigan Sept. 17.
Under President Donald Trump’s second administration, the National Guard has been deployed in Washington, Los Angeles and most recently Memphis . Trump has said the deployments are an effective way of cracking down on crime. He hasn't previously mentioned Detroit as another option for a federal deployment, although some Michigan Republicans have called for federal backup in fighting crime there.
