More than 10 months after a pedestrian died from injuries suffered when he was struck by a car in Rochester Hills, charges were filed Wednesday against the driver — who officials say was in the United States illegally and has since been deported.
Though named in a two-count warrant from the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, officials say it’s unlikely Jhadiel Portilla will face charges in Oakland County for the Nov. 3, 2024 crash that killed Stephen Singleton, 72, of Rochester Hills. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement deported Portilla to Colombia last February, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
As announced Sept. 17 by the sheriff’s office, Portilla, 28, is charged with a moving violation causing death – a two-year misdemeanor — and possession of a forged license
