In response to significant pushback from some community members regarding the plans for a public safety training facility, Pittsburgh City Council members have added amendments to the legislation it hopes will quell some of those concerns.

Over the past three months members of the council have heard from dozens of community members pushing back on the plan that they have dubbed Pittsburgh’s version of “cop city.”

Many are concerned that the training facility, which will be housed at the old Veterans Affairs Hospital in Lincoln-Lemington, would become a place that would militarize the city’s police force. They also voiced frustration with the lack of public input.
