If President Donald Trump has his way, National Guard troops would be sent to St. Louis to help fight crime — a move U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley believes would be welcomed by many city residents.

"They want to be safe. They want criminals off the street and in jail," Hawley said in an interview Wednesday. "Things have got to change."

But right now, Hawley is more focused on bringing another type of federal authority to Missouri: ICE agents.

In a recent letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, Missouri's senior GOP senator said the military base near Waynesville would work well as a training site for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement police.
