SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
KCRA 3 director Doug Holdren is retiring after 47 years, having started his career at the station in 1976 and becoming a key figure in the newsroom.
Holdren wore many hats over the years, eventually finding his groove as director of newscasts in 1987, which is like helming mission control over the news of the day.
News director Derek Schnell praised Holdren's dedication to mentoring new producers.
"What makes Doug so special is the fact that for decade after decade, he cares so much about the growth of our producers, helping people who are brand new in their career and coming here and do excellent work to serve our community," he said.
Other staff members called Holdren a guiding force in the newsroom.
"I really want to thank you for the times that I've filled in
