GRAND FORKS — The UND football program's newest defensive line recruit is an area quarterback.
Crookston's Tate Hamre, a 6-foot-4, 230-pound senior, recently gave his verbal commitment to play for the Fighting Hawks.
Hamre plays quarterback and defensive end for the Pirates, who are 0-4. Hamre projects as an edge with the Fighting Hawks.
Before committing to UND, Hamre had collected at least six offers from the area Division II programs in the NSIC.
"He's really coachable," Crookston first-year head coach Jim McBride said. "He's smart. He picks up on concepts and things really fast."
Hamre isn't a natural quarterback, but he orchestrates the option for Crookston.
