EAST FISHKILL — A State Police sergeant died early Tuesday following a motorcycle crash in Dutchess County.

Nigel Barnett, 49, was thrown from his motorcycle while riding on the Taconic State Parkway in the town of East Fishkill around 6:30 a.m., State Police said in a statement. Investigators have not determined what caused the Poughkeepsie resident to lose control of his 2025 Ducati and crash into a guardrail, police said.

First responders declared Barnett dead at the scene, police said.

Barnett, a 19-year State Police veteran, was the commander of the Cortlandt station in Troop K.
