The contracts for more than 5,7000 nurses across the Sharp Healthcare System are set to expire at the end of the month, and they have not been able to reach a new deal. On Wednesday, several dozen marched to the headquarters to deliver a signed petition.

“The petition’s asking for a respectable contract, stating that the nurses are all united and we’re willing to take any action if Sharp decides not to give us something respectable,” said Yesenia Diaz, a registered nurse with Sharp Healthcare.

Diaz is a registered nurse in Sharp Health’s float pool, meaning she works at all the hospitals depending on where she is needed.

She says many of her fellow nurses have been leaving the Sharp Healthcare System for Kaiser Permanente or UC San Diego Health, where she says the wages are higher.
