The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has clarified that certain Universal Credit payments may need to be repaid.
The benefit offers financial support to individuals below State Pension age who have low incomes and/or are unemployed.
The majority of recipients receive monthly payments, with Universal Credit replacing Housing Benefit, income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), income-based Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA), and Income Support.
Beyond requiring assistance with living expenses, claimants must reside in the UK, possess savings below £16,000, and be 18 or older, though exceptions occasionally apply for those aged 16-17.
