CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man has died after he was hit by a car in August in south Charlotte, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said Wednesday.
The crash happened near the intersection of Old Pineville Road and East Exmore Street on Aug. 24, around 10:15 p.m.
Police responded to a pedestrian struck call at the scene and found Mark Hendel, 52, in the roadway. A wheelchair was found nearby. Investigators say the person who hit Hendel drove off from the scene.
Hendel died from injuries suffered in the crash on Monday, Sept. 15.
Ioannis Vlahos, 59, was identified as the suspect in the crash. Witnesses told police that Vlahos struck the wheelchair-bound Hendel, pulled into a nearby business to remove the wheelchair from the front of his vehicle, and drove off from the scene, according
