CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Corvallis Fire Department is gearing up for a significant prescribed fire at Herbert Farm & Natural Area, according to fire officials.

This 221-acre city-owned parcel, located near the southern edge of Corvallis, will see a controlled burn aimed at restoring natural habitats and reducing wildfire risk. According to the Corvallis Fire Department, the burn is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 27, contingent upon specific weather conditions to ensure safety.

In collaboration with Corvallis Parks and Recreation and the Institute for Applied Ecology, the fire will cover about 40 acres. This initiative continues the restoration efforts that have been ongoing since 2011, with a similar successful burn conducted in 2021.
