LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A semitrailer caught fire Wednesday afternoon at a salvage yard near downtown Lincoln.
The fire was reported around 1:35 p.m. at North Second and Q streets near the People’s City Mission.
A Channel 8 reporter at the scene said several Lincoln Fire & Rescue crews put out a semitrailer fire.
LFR said the semitrailer was filled with recyclable metal and had tried placing a smashed car on top of it.
The car’s airbag cartridges exploded, sparking the fire, according to LFR. Crews put out the blaze in about five minutes.
Officials estimate the fire caused about $95,000 in damage to the truck and another $21,000 in damage to its contents.
